After owning this album for a few years, I'm finally getting around to reviewing, something that I've thought about doing quite a few times. Bang for your buck. I'm someone who has casually enjoyed Lifehouse's singles since the beginning, but the only full-length album that I listened to prior to this was Stanley Climbfall. Overall, this cd is a must but it contains a hip hop Lifehouse that might shock the listeners.

Three albums in and Lifehouse sound comfortable -- comfortable in their skin, comfortable working within the constraints of adult alternative radio, comfortable enough to deaden any possible lingering Creed or Stone Temple Pilots comparisons that might have plagued them after their first two records. Fortunately, Lifehouse left the best songs for last.

The arrangements as always are tight - but when you have such a powerful vocalist as Wade, instrumentation can be quite sparse as the vocal is frequently compelling as on songs like "Is that what it is" and the sublime "From where you are. 1,571 talking about this. The band came to mainstream prominence in 2001 with the hit single "Hanging by a Moment" from their debut studio album, No Name Face. "Had Enough" is a good break up song that is, fortunately, very Jason Wade and Lifehouse. Mostly, however, he feels that the group "took all of our different musical influences and they coalesce together and live in the same space.

I could not wait for this CD to come out and I must say, I was NOT disappointed! Long story short, I love Smoke & Mirrors. It is packed full of delicious melodies and has a much more upbeat feel about it.

I read one review saying this was the best release since their first one (think's that's the best one) but I disagree. The song writing is never less than thought provoking and Jason Wade's voice is full of soulful yearning and introspective lament, that perfectly conveys the urgency of the lyric.
