Nestled at the base of tall granite cliffs, Winnemucca Lake is a high-sierra experience – alpine wildflowers, bald mountains, summer snow patches, and fresh air without a strenuous hike. Try for a weekday to avoid the crowds and remember to keep your pooch on a lease in this area. Always check the weather forecast before you go; weather is generally mild from July through mid-September, but afternoon thunderstorms are common. Stopped at Frog Lake on the way in before hiking to Winnemucca. Wildflower bloom times for Carson Pass and Winnemucca Lake will most likely be closer to July (and later) for 2019. After big snow years, the wildflowers may not start blooming until July or August.
