This is one of those films that has you wanting to yell at the characters on screen starting about 20 minutes in: "Go to the police! A very simple and realistic story, which keeps the viewer in tension until the last scene. 16 out of 29 found this helpful. Only ninety minutes in, after another death and more threats on their lives, do they even mention the possibility of maybe, you know, going to the police. the director rather wanted to excite than to expose the bigotry of human beings. When she's investigating a kind of dungeon with a young man she believes is a friend, the door slams shut, locked, behind them and, pop, the lights go out and they only have half a box of matches to find their way through the cobwebs. Super far fetched contrivances just go on and on for hours, losing the viewer as a result. This is one of those movies that is completely scenario driven. Use the HTML below. Of course they never do, and seem completely idiotic for that.
a remarkable but unconvincing thriller about the fascination of violence to the public. This, therefore, makes us come to the conclusion that a movie is worth a review if it has been watched. Yesterday I saw this magnificent low budget thriller. It often jumps from a potentially exciting scene to a dull one, as well.
A film student Ángela (Ana Torrent) decides to write her thesis paper on violence in cinema, hence deciding to focus on less known works, especially those banned from general viewing. This is less "Hollywood" than The Others, but I do find Abre Los Ojos to be a better film than this one(have more flu-induced nightmares, Alejandro! The director professes that Spain's film industry will not be a success until it gives the people what it wants - and that theory in it's purest form is snuff films. He seemed to think it was a serious comment on the "serious" snuff movie problem rather than a stylish horror movie mainly aimed at a knowing audience. Was this review helpful? Sort by: ... Tesis is a film about a film student writing an assignment on violence on film, which is appropriate because Tesis is itself, an assignment written by Alejandro Amenábar on violence and the state of the Spanish film industry. The film begins with a subway accident and the director,using the camera to direct the audiences reactions....the true meaning of pure cinema...teases with the viewer,will they show it,I hope not but still you can't keep from watching and this is mirrored in the final moments when patients at a hospital are all held spellbound by the images on the tv screen....will they show the actual images of torture and dismemberment.This film is what Robert Rodriguez and Tarantino aspire to do but don't quite get it right....Mr.Almenabar gets it right and I can't wait to see his new film,Open Your Eyes.Surprisingly,no one has attempted an American remake yet...THANK GOD!All Hollywood knows how to do is Blow Things UP! The film was made while he was studying at the Complutense University in Madrid. I mean I get that horror films have characters doing stupid things, like NOT GOING TO THE POLICE when they should, but this one seems especially bad in that regard. It's not even particularly stylish which sometimes covers for bad script problems. Why don't you go to the police?"

Fele Martinez at his best, too. It's really a Brian DePalma ripoff, with every cliché in the book. Was this review helpful? Soon she discovers that the girl was a former student in her faculty... While watching this film, Prof. Figueroa dies, and the new professor assigned to give orientation to Ángela, Jorge Castro (Xabier Elorriaga), questions many points in her thesis, inclusive the achievement of information. A very handsome man finds the love of his life, but he suffers an accident and needs to have his face rebuilt by surgery after it is severely disfigured.
Thesis is bone chilling, mind boggling and a very fine thriller. Writer Miguel de Unamuno faces himself and his ideals after the 1936's military coup d'etat.
