For Austen fans, this book is a must because the point at which Another Lady takes over and completes the narrative is completely indistinguishable from the rest of the text. I have thoroughly disliked the recent ITV adaptation in which it seemed to me that the writer had barely a nodding acquaintance with Austen so outrageous were his notions of what she might have written. When I first read this completion of Jane Austen's fragment some years ago, I thought it was pretty good. Jane Austen's Sanditon: With an Essay by Janet Todd The beautiful and well-wrought PBS Masterpiece miniseries Sanditon has an infuriating ending. Given the fact that she was young, and rich, and everybody wanted her money, how could you do something interesting with all that? This is its completion, praised for its delicacy, wit and discretion. To my surprise, I had to grind through the beginning chapters (written by Jane) and assumed she had not the time to polish her unfinished work. I remember the first time I tried reading the fragment, many years ago, being put off by the carriage accident in the first paragraph, and also by the whole idea of the novel being about promoters trying to boost a sleepy seaside village into a fashionable resort - it seems that if she had completed this book, it would have been something of a departure for her.This didn't really feel like a Jane Austen novel, not even the first eleven chapters written by Austen herself. I can imagine her primary reason for this effort was an act of love for Austen and sympathy with other Austen fans in mourning their having "finished" Austen's extant work. Jane Austen had already indicated who the hero and heroine were to be and had sketched out some of the other characters and the book was finished in complete Austen style with a lovely ending. But then - I got to the section picked up by "another lady" and was off and running! Tone is light, lead characters are likable, and, to my mind, consistent with the tone of the part of the novel written by Jane Austen. From DC & Neil Gaiman, The Sandman arises only on Audible. I thought to myself, Jane Austin would NEVER end her book like that! I was enjoying it when it ended - most unsatisfactorily. What a wonderful story, what lovely romances occurred, and how wonderfully finished the story by Another Lady. Watching the newly resurfaced episode “Please, Baby, Please” today, it seems even more ridiculous that ABC wouldn’t air it back in 2018. Do you believe that this item violates a copyright?

That and the fact that certain things toward the end were not indeed, developments I think Austen would have put in her books, or have had her characters done. At least contract for two series to give everyone a “proper parting” And speaking for myself, a book that I merely intended to dip into out of curiosity first seduced, then gripped me, and left me in the end with tears of pleasure. Aside from that, it was a wonderfully intriguing and entertaining story that kept pulling me on in true Janian fashion, knowing that our heroine would surely get together with her hero, but intensely curious HOW it would all be arranged.
