How do you make a film… no SELL the idea of a film, whose premise is the following? This is an absolute masterpiece of film making. A head chef quits his restaurant job and buys a food truck in an effort to reclaim his creative promise, while piecing back together his estranged family. Host Adam Richman (and subsequently Casey Webb) travels around the U.S., taking on a variety of local eating challenges involving meal size, spiciness and other daunting factors. One daily story, that can happen to everyone is schematized and deeply studied in the movie. Having just seen Kaurismaki's dryly-witty `Man Without a Past,' I couldn't believe that director Bent Hamer's `Kitchen Stories' is actually drier and funnier.

After my wife got me addicted to Hell's Kitchen (US) during its first season, we've jumped at the opportunity to watch every show or series we could with Gordon in it.Looking for some great streaming picks? In post war Sweden it was discovered that every year, an average housewife walks the equivalent number of miles as the distance between Stockholm and Congo, while preparing her family meals. The tone, the sadness, the warmth, the understanding, the yearning, the apartness, and the awkwardness of human relations are all beautifully and unselfconsciously portrayed here by a fine cast. The movie tracks the unlikely relationship that develops between the Swedish market researcher, sent to observe (and strictly forbidden to interact with the subject of his study) the kitchen ways of his crusty Norwegian bachelor "host". Gordon Ramsay explores the global cocaine trade, observing police as they arrest users and dealers and visiting Colombia, the world's biggest producer of cocaine. These sunless people know how to play the darkness. This film was a surprise since we went without any preconceptions, having avoided reading about it beforehand. Was this review helpful? This one is cause for celebration of small independent films. If it all sounds unpromising or esoteric as a comedy film, don't be disheartened, but try to catch it next time it's on.

It certainly had me on the floor with glee from the opening scene when a troop of identical looking caravan pulling cars cross the Norway-Sweden border where they had to change driving lanes (Sweden drove on the left of the road in the 1950s, while Norway did not) and one of the drivers was physically unwell from having to drive on the "wrong" side of the road. The Norse/Swedish co-production depicts 1950's Swedes studying bachelors in their kitchens to improve their lives.
